“Bake Bethesda a Pie Contest” is a popular bake off showcasing the talents of DC area amateur bakers. The 5th annual contest is a fundraiser for Manna Food Center and is held at Bethesda Central Farm Market.
The contest has an adult and kid division. Both sweet and savory pies are welcomed into the competition. Including bragging rights around town, the winners also walked away with some swag from local market venders.
Judges (from left to right): Peter Brett (professor at Stratford University School of Baking & Pastry Arts), Lisa Cherkasky (a popular and well loved food stylist and writer), and Susan Wallace (the Corporate Executive Pastry Chef at Black Restaurant Group) got their “filling” of pie while judging the pies on presentation, execution, and taste.
After the judging comes the much awaited “Cutting of the Pies”; where for a small donation, the crowd can taste the pies. All proceeds from “Bake Bethesda a Pie Contest” goes directly to Manna Food Center. This year was a success, raising over $1,000 to donate.
