Photo Restoration

Photos are memories captured in time and saved to be cherished.  Often, these memories are passed from generation to generation and may be the only copy of a certain person or event existed.  It can be absolutely heart breaking if these photos are ripped, faded, or damaged in any way.  This is where photo restoration is able to help.

Photo Restoration is a process, but by using a variety of image editing techniques, I am able to repair those heirlooms.  It is possible to bring back original clarity and luster to photos.  The Photo Restoration Services that I am able to offer are:  remove/rebuild parts, image composites, color correction or balance, remove dust, stains, and scratches, as well as blemish/beauty retouching.  Every photo is different and requires special attention to the details needed to bring it back to “life”.

Some of the stories I have heard behind the history of these photos are incredibly sad, especially if it may be the last images that a person clings to.  It is extremely heartwarming to see the joy and happiness in a client’s face when delivering the repaired print.  It is almost like bringing a little piece back to life.

Rachel OhjaExtreme damage of a 40 year old photo in moist and damp conditions in Darjeeling, India.  A surprise gift of restoration of a husband’s passed mother, this was a very important project to take on.  The gaze from the mother’s eyes provides a haunting portrait of mother and son.

This is an example of the side effects from older color images developed and printed using a chromogenic process.  Usually this can go unnoticed for some time due to being hidden away in the dark, such as saved into a photo album.
